There are multiple versions of Parrot OS for you to choose from. The Security Edition limits your choice to MATE and Plasma. The Security Edition includes the kind of tools you would expect from a distro devoted to attacking mitigation and conducting vulnerability assessments, saving you the hassle of installing many of them yourself. Parrot OS is not as private as Tails, but it's more usable as an everyday desktop. This version defaults to MATE, but you can also choose KDE Plasma or Xfce instead. But there's nothing to stop a security professional from installing the extra tools necessary to do their jobs. It comes with programs like the Tor browser for privately browsing the web and Element for secure communications. The Home Edition aims at computer uses looking for a lightweight but private operating system for their computer. There are two versions of Parrot OS to choose from, which impacts which desktop environment you can use. Parrot OS derives its roots from Debian Testing and defaults to the MATE desktop environment. The default version, known as "Bare Metal," that you can install on your PC comes in at around 500MB to 3GB, depending on whether you opt for the network-connected installer or the offline installer. When you head to the download page of Kali Linux's website, you get the impression that you can run Kali just about anywhere. ![]() ![]() Likewise, you can grab metapackages that provide you with tools that benefit from having access to GPU hardware or those aimed at hacking hardware. You can install only tools that target Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth devices, Radio-Frequency Identification tools (RFID), Voice over IP (VoIP), and more. The metapackages extend to the type of testing you wish to do. Or if a graphical interface is excessive for the job you're doing, you can go for the headless option as well. So if you only want the core components needed to run the Kali Linux desktop, you can go that route. ![]() The default installer provides "metapackages" that bundle similar types of software together.

![]() The early access version of Darkest Dungeon 2 contains only one of six planned campaigns in the initial menu, although it's hard to tell what exactly – other than a final boss – would change from one campaign to the next. Both seem to be slightly more subdued than they were in the original, but in a way that fits Darkest Dungeon 2's long road-trip vibe. Narrator Wayne June, whose deep and unsettling voice set precisely the right tone in the first game, has returned for an encore, as has composer Stuart Chadwick. The sound and music is also top-notch – again. ![]() I still get excited just switching between two different skills with the Hellion and watching her raise her halberd above her head versus pulling it behind her body. Instead of being barely animated paper doll-style cutouts, the characters move and sway when idle and prepare to attack when you start clicking on different combat skills. What's dramatically improved, however, are the character models and animations. Combat is largely the same as it was in its predecessor it's a one-dimensional tactics game where face monsters on a line and use appropriate skills to bash, weaken, and zap them before they can do the same to you. It's much less intense overall, for good and for ill.ĭarkest Dungeon 2 is still a very strong moment-to-moment game, despite those systemic issues. This isn't necessarily a bad thing! If you were stressed about those difficult decisions in the original, Darkest Dungeon 2 might be much more your speed. Having a single long dungeon run means there are a bunch of smaller decisions with smaller effects overall. Darkest Dungeon 1 was filled with the compelling decision of "should I try to guide this barely standing party to a finish line or should I bail now and keep them alive?" In Darkest Dungeon 2, you simply go as far as you can until you have to click "Abandon Run" and then try again. Because a run is a single, multi-hour progression, there's no ability to run away and only get partial rewards for the current set of characters – in Darkest Dungeon 2 you're either going forward or you're starting over. They combine in a way that removes the signature tension that Darkest Dungeon 1 created. They're annoying, certainly, but they're not run-ending the way a breakdown in Darkest Dungeon 1 could be.Īnd this is the biggest issue with Darkest Dungeon 2's new mechanics. I found it pretty easy, at least early in a run, to simply fight my way past the debuffs. Alternately, if you don't want to worry about stress, you can get by without even bothering to take those characters or upgrades. If you want to manage your party's stress level, you pretty much have to upgrade one of a few skills like the Plague Doctor's "Ounce of Prevention" skill at the start of a run and use it regularly. This combines with the other major issue with the relationship system in the early access version: it's just not especially well-balanced right now.
The elephant in the room with Hogwarts Legacy is Harry Potter’s creator, J.K. Most are memorable and instantly endearing, like Sebastian the cocky and morally pliable Slytherin, or Natsai the clever and unflappable Gryffindor, and spending time with them and improving your social links through their relationship questlines made my stay at Hogwarts all the more enjoyable. The characters you’ll spend most of your time with are the classmates who will befriend you on campus, accompany you on certain quests, and help you hone your abilities as a magic user. It may not be the most impressive technical achievement and it is certainly cursed with a lack of enemy variety, but none of Hogwarts Legacy’s issues can cast a Descendo charm on this triumphant visit to the Wizarding World. Its open world map absolutely nails the vibe of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it has spellcasting combat that’s stupefyingly good, the characters that inhabit it are charming and unforgettable, and it is positively brimming with countless diversions to soak up dozens of hours of your time. With Hogwarts Legacy, I’m happy to say that we finally got a Harry Potter game that captures some of that magic. But none of these has come close to fulfilling that fantasy of receiving a Hogwarts admission letter that opens the door to a secret world. ![]() In that time, we’ve gotten some respectable LEGO Potter games, an underwhelming EA Sports Quidditch game for some reason, and even suffered through the fevered nightmare that is Harry Potter Kinect. ![]() But her writing is the foundation for the project and she still makes money off of sales.Like many, I’ve been waiting for a truly excellent Harry Potter game since I was in the third grade. The official site breaks down what comes with each edition. The Collector's Edition has already sold out, but you may be able to find it online for a markup. You can view more ways to purchase Hogwarts Legacy (including how to buy the Deluxe Edition) on the game's website. The PC version is available for $60 at Steam and the Epic Games store. You can preorder the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch versions from those stores for $60 (£60, $AU85). If you're interested in the Standard Edition, you can buy the PS5 and Xbox Series X and S versions from stores, including GameStop, Amazon and Best Buy for $70 (£65, AU$99). The PS4 and Xbox One versions won't have an early access period. The Deluxe Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition for PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC included 72 hours of early access, starting Feb. The game was first announced in 2020, and its release dates have changed multiple times. Nintendo Switch users will have to hang on even longer, until July 25, to play Hogwarts Legacy. Hogwarts Legacy sticks to the lore but doesn't adapt the Harry Potter books and films. You can customize your character, choose a Hogwarts house and grow your magical abilities by brewing potions, mastering spells and taming beasts. ![]() ![]() You can also go beyond it to new and familiar locations, per the website. You can explore Hogwarts Castle, where you attend classes. Hogwarts Legacy players will "embark on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world," according to the game's website. Here are some basic things to know about Hogwarts Legacy, including when you can snag a copy depending on your platform. The game from developer Avalanche Software lets players experience the famed school of witchcraft and wizardry as a student in the 1800s, before the events of the Harry Potter books. The open-world roleplaying game is set in the Harry Potter universe, and it seems like the game that many fans of the books have long hoped for. Hogwarts Legacy is now available, allowing wizarding fans the chance to shape their own magical fantasy. ![]() Sign in to Office 365 by using your user ID, and then click PC. Apart from that, the features you’re probably expecting will take a while to develop and refine. If you have any friends on the closed beta, you’ll be able to see stuff like their Xbox Live achievements in the Activity section as well. For now, all you can do is import your libraries and use GOG Galaxy to keep track of how many games you own and how many achievements and hours you have in total.
